1st Vice Commander
Greetings to our Legion Members and Families, Our Post has been a hopping place, especially the
Friday Fish Frys. It has been very successful, due in part to all the volunteers who make this event
special. Thank you all! The Honor Guard has been doing a good job as usual this year. I’m very proud of them. Looking good guys.
Please keep Tom Kulkay in your prayers, to shorten his long recovery. I have to say I really miss him.
Michele and I attended “Vets on the Hill” April 9th and it was very gratifying to see the amount of support veterans have on their side. There are many groups and individuals working hard to make sure veterans are getting the much-needed help and care they deserve.
Memorial Day is just around the corner so mark your calendars.
At your service,
Vaughn Smith, 1st Vice Commander
Adjutant
Happy Spring (I Hope)
A bus load of us went to “Veterans on the Hill” along with over a thousand other vets from all over the state. We went with vets from Zimmerman, Big Lake, and Becker. Frank Grittner, the District 6 Commander, organized the bus and his son drove it. It was a great time to meet old friends and listen to some of the issues being proposed by the legislature. Some of the main issues were Veteran
homelessness, Veteran hunger, Veterans legal programs, property tax relief and Claim scammers. It got very exciting when the governor spoke. Many Veterans showed a lot of passion for their beliefs.
By the time you read this the last Fish Supper will happen. We can’t thank all the helpers enough. This is one of our main events and helps keep the post running and provides us with the ability to support some of our projects such as Legionville (sending 4 Kids again this year) Lacrosse and Legion Baseball.
Planning is underway for our annual Memorial Day Program. If you would like to help let us know. There are a lot of moving parts to make it happen. I need to thank all the members of The Honor Guard for everything they have done, funerals, sporting events. The Honor Guard is always looking for a few good Men [and Women] to fill our ranks so if you might be interested let us know. It’s a very rewarding experience and doesn’t take as much time as you think.
Our Membership for 2025 is coming to a close and we are almost to 300 renewals. If you haven’t renewed yet, please do. We need about 7 more to reach our goal. It’s our members that keep us strong.
As always, a good place to learn how to get involved would be to come to our donuts with the commanders on Saturday mornings at 8:30. It’s a good way to meet people and see what’s going on.
We wish Commander Tom all the best as he continues to recover from his recent surgery. Stop by the post to say hello and sign the book.

Auxiliary
Hello Auxiliary Peeps,
Hope everyone is doing well. We have had a couple of Auxiliary members get injured this month…. because they were just overdoing it? Sharon Mendenhall and I (mostly Sharon) have completed the annual reports and sent them off to the appropriate District and Department offices. Members may often think we are harassing them to submit volunteer hours but reporting them is very important to the American Legion. A total of 1826 hours were reported for 2023-2024 for supporting Veterans, Children and Youth, Education, Community Service, Americanism, Legislation, Leadership and Poppies. Keep up the good work!
The Lenten season will be complete once this newsletter goes out. I want to thank everyone, members, and non-members for all their hard work. We couldn’t do it without each and every one of you. Next is the Poppy distribution on May 9th, Memorial Day, May 26th and Flag Day, June 14th.
The mayor is wondering if any Auxiliary members want to “adorn” a float in the parade. If you do, please let me know by May 9th, as I will have to secure the float.
Thanks for your continued membership.
Michele Smith President, Auxiliary Unit 112
Auxiliary Membership
From September 2024 to date, we have 7 new members for a total of 119 and need 7 more to reach our goal of 126. We welcome our newest member, Pammy LeBeau. The craft sale is coming up October 25th. If you are an Auxiliary member & want a booth let me know now. I will send applications to members before the public.
