Commander

Hello Legion Family,

I have a good feeling about the future of our Post.  It is a challenge when things breakdown and need to be repaired or replaced, but our team of members, volunteers and staff find a solution and get it done.

Our main goal is to help veterans and I witness that mindset every day at our Post. Thank you for letting me be apart of the success of Post 112.

Looking forward to warmer weather coming our way and all of the activities that we enjoy.  Stay safe and thank you for your service.

Vaughn Smith,

Commander Post 112

1st Vice Commander

Adjutant

By the time you read this many events will have already taken place. Many of us are planning on attending the mid-winter conference in Pequot Lakes on 7 Feb, Breakfast supporting a basketball team on 8 Feb, our Valentine’s Day Comedy show on 14 Feb, Breakfast Bloody Mary’s and Bingo on 15 Feb and probably our first Friday night Fish supper on 20 Feb. There are lots of things going on at the post so keep watching our ads on Facebook and check out the new website for details.

If you haven’t paid your membership dues please do so. We are coming closer to reaching our goal of 310 for the year. And thanks to Bill Stevenson for his tireless work as the membership director. Bill and I get membership messages at least once a week from the District or Department on our progress or lack of progress. Remember it’s our members that keep us strong.

So now we’re going to concentrate on our big upcoming event our annual Lenten Friday night Fish suppers in February and March. We cannot overstate how important the Fish suppers are in keeping our post in the black. If you can help out, please sign up. If you can’t volunteer, please come as a customer and enjoy a great meal.

The Honor Guard recently had our annual dinner and just for fun did honors for a veteran earlier in the day partnering with the Cambridge Legion Honor Guard. We were then requested to help the Monticello Legion to do honors for a Coast Guard Veteran.

Last month my keyword was involvement and I think this month it is Teamwork. The Honor Guard is always looking for a few good Men [and Women] to fill out our Team so if you might be interested let us know. It’s a very rewarding experience and doesn’t take as much time as you think. We are also working with VFW 5518 to do some joint missions. There are many dual members who belong to both posts and worked together in the past. (Teamwork)

As always good place to learn how to be part of the team would be to come to our donuts with the commanders on Saturday mornings at 8:30. It’s a good way to meet people and see what’s going on. Sometimes the Mayor stops by and gives us updates. about what’s going on in Elk River.

Stop on by the post to say hello and sign the book.

Gregory Crow (G2)

Post Adjutant

PS. Some people believe in the Ground hog but I thought I heard my motorcycle groaning the other day. Spring is coming.

2nd Vice Commander

Greetings Fellow Legion Members, I hope this finds you happy and well.

I will give you updates, changes, or improvements made at 525 Railroad Drive:

I have been in the basement organizing nails, screws, bolts, and various hardware, so things can be easily found.

The coffee area counter top was replaced with a piece of old pull tab booth counter top.  The small sink and faucet in that area, which were seldom used, were removed.

The hand-washing sink faucet in the kitchen needed to be replaced, because it dripped constantly.  So, Vaughn and I replaced it.

I bought lumber, cut it at home, hauled it to the post, and Vaughn and I assembled a two-part stage that was used for the comedy show.  Rick Tjsvold put carpeting on the stage. I also put casters on each section, so it can be moved easily, and I painted the edges of the stage.

I made a cart for the bean bag boards, so they can be moved around.

Vaughn and I painted the lower tan parts of the walls in Commander and Kohler halls.

I patched the upper corner in the NW corner of Commanders Hall where water had leaked in.

We are trying to make improvements to the building in preparation for the National Commander's visit in April

On an almost daily basis, I blow away dirt by the front and pool room doors, get the mail, make trips to the bank, go to the post office, go to Walmart or Cub and get supplies.

There are always things to do at the post or items that need repair or replacement.
